8th BIFFE STARTS FROM JAN 28

The prestigious 8th Bengaluru International Film Festival kick start on 28th of January and conclude on 4th of February with usual extravaganza.

The Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah is leading the festival organizing committee, minister for information and public relations is executive chairman, while noted actress and MLC Dr Jayamala is artistic director.

The festival is held in Bengaluru and Mysuru simultaneously. The inaugural will be in Vidhana Soudha and valedictory event is held in Mysuru.

The regular screening commence from 29th of January at 11 screens – OVR, Orion, Inox at Mysuru will be careening nearly 170 films from 61 countries.

The Asian competition (12) films, Indian competition 13 films and Kannada competition 15 films are in the fray.

This year there will be additional international jury for Kannada section, the categories are Contemporary cinema of world, country focus, directors retrospective, Artists retrospective this time will be focus on Dr B Saroja Devi films. Dada Saheb Phalke award winners vintages – Mrinal Sen, Adoor Gopalakrishnan figure.

In the tribute section there will be Siddalingaiah and KSL Swamee films.

The 15 films Kannada films that are in the 8th Biffes are – Biruku, Bombeyaata, Chali Polilu (Tulu), Chiguru, Daksha, Devara Nadalli, Haggada Kone, Mythri, Naanu Avanalla Avanu, Nagaradalli Ondu Dina, Priyanka, Puta Tirugisi Nodi, Rangitaranga, Saalada Magu and Vidhaaya.

Among other highlights of this edition – there will be documentary films section. More than 50 foreign delegates are expected, the registration fee is Rs.600 for others and Rs.300 for students, film society members, senior citizens and KFCC film family.
